A blush called Orgasm

In 1999, François Nars launched a peachy-pink, apricot-coloured blush that imitated the colour of cheeks after lovemaking. He called it Orgasm. A best seller. The brand has just released a creamy version, infused with moisturising ingredients and resistant to transfer. The pleasure, however, is not guaranteed. – Isabelle Cerboneschi

When he launched his first line of twelve lipsticks at Barneys in New York in 1994, François Nars had no intention of creating yet another make-up collection. He wanted to break into women’s intimacy with products that would reveal them. His colour ranges must change something in their daily lives. To achieve this, he works with special pigments and textures and uses the bold vocabulary of love to name his colours.

In 1999 François Nars launched Orgasm, a peachy-pink blush with iridescent gold sparkles that mimics the colour of cheeks after lovemaking. It’s soft, it’s fresh, it’s clever, it’s light, it gives a healthy glow, it’s natural, everything we love. The make-up artist started by creating the name, then the colour: he wanted it to be shocking. It’s easy to forget the number of a nail varnish, but a blush called Orgasm will always be remembered.

Since the end of February, this iconic shade has been available in a new texture: a liquid blush with an applicator – Afterglow Liquid Blush – which very quickly dethroned the original compact blush at the bottom of my bag.

It’s a silky texture, packed with moisturising ingredients and vitamin E, that blends like a veil and resists transfer, while leaving cheeks delicately rosy for several hours. “I love sensorial formulas. They glide on skin beautifully and allow you to create any look you want” says François Nars, Founder & Creative Director of the company that bears his name.

François Nars never thought the blush would be such a success. « When I look back, I think it was the combination of its bold name and its universally flattering colour that made it so famous,” he told me in an interview. « Even grandmothers love Orgasm ».
