Bleu de Chanel, behind the scene
Franco-American actor Timothée Chalamet has been chosen to embody Bleu de Chanel fragrance. As we await the release of the advertising film directed by Martin Scorsese in October, here are a few images from the making of the campaign. Photos: Mario Sorrenti. Isabelle Cerboneschi
The new advertising campaign for Bleu de Chanel starring Timothée Chalamet was launched on 1 June. The photos, all in blue shadow and light, were taken by the famous photographer Mario Sorrenti. In a stripped-down atmosphere, with a set reduced to the bare essentials, they reveal both the photogenic and the singular beauty of the Franco-American actor, who makes all the light his own.
Chanel doesn’t just create fragrances that last through the decades and even a century, with N°5, which turned 100 in 2021. The house protects them in a luxury case that is both physical and artistic, choosing extraordinary personalities to embody its creations and produce its advertising campaigns. These include Baz Luhrmann’s short film for Chanel N°5, starring Nicole Kidman in 2004, and Jean-Pierre Jeunet’s “Train de Nuit”, starring Audrey Tautou, in 2009.
Chanel has given me an unbelievable creative opportunity to work on a short film inspired by Bleu de Chanel directed by Martin Scorsese— the greatest living American auteur of our time, Timothée Chalamet
The advertising film for Bleu de Chanel, directed by the filmmaker Martin Scorsese, will be released in autumn. He had already directed the campaign with Gaspard Ulliel, who had embodied the fragrance since its launch in 2010, before his tragic death. “Chanel has given me an unbelievable creative opportunity to work on a short film inspired by Bleu de Chanel directed by Martin Scorsese— the greatest living American auteur of our time”, explains Timothée Chalamet in his interview.
As we await the film’s release this autumn, we can take a look at the images captured during the making of the advertising campaign, photographed by Mario Sorrenti, and immerse ourselves in this bluish halo, a beautiful mystery, in the image of the fragrance.
